Learn to Unplug Your Brain from Work

You took a long weekend but you’re still exhausted, counting the hours until wine o’clock on Friday.

Every Sunday afternoon is marred by thoughts about Monday morning.

You're not disconnecting enough to replenish yourself.

Time off is not enough to stave off burnout unless you master the skill of disconnecting from work and other responsibilities.

Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

Without it, your level of exhaustion is out of proportion.

And you’ll never build the capacity for more joy and meaning in your life and work.

Fully revitalizing disconnection starts with mindfulness. You can’t change what you're not aware of.

Here's how to start being more mindful: Get still for a few minutes several times a day. Simply breathe and listen to your thoughts.

The more you practice this the more you’ll notice when you’re thinking about the board meeting or worrying about your aging mom instead of enjoying your son’s soccer game or really listening to your partner or losing yourself in a book.

When you do notice those thoughts during disconnect time, gently redirect yourself to the present.

You'll know you're getting better at it when you start feeling less drained.

But this true disconnection practice doesn't just save energy. It generates it.

When you rest completely, you build the energy and resilience you need to show up in a way that makes you proud and satisfied at home and at work.

How great would that feel?
